As part of OKM Music’s continued commitment to supporting the next generation of artists, the No Child Clef Behind™ program works to offset expenses that students incur while pursuing their musical aspirations. With one out of every six Oklahoma residents living in poverty, having to choose necessities over education is a reality that many families face. One quarter of Oklahoma children ages
6 and under live in poverty and 23.1% of children ages 6-11 come from impoverished homes, leaving very little opportunity for them to be introduced to the arts. Music, which plays a crucial part in personal and cognitive development, should not be omitted from a child’s life. No student should be deprived from experiencing the innumerable benefits music has to offer. In order to bridge the gap, OKM Music collaborates with the Bartlesville School District, private schools and homeschools to donate instruments to students who are unable to afford one of their own. Since the program’s creation in 1985, No Child Clef Behind™ has donated over 2500 instruments to Bartlesville music students. Funds given to the program also go towards covering band fees, books, and other supplemental materials that students need for their music studies.
OKM Music endeavors to utilize its No Child Clef Behind program as a resource for all children who aspire to be musicians but have been deterred because of a lack of finances. This program is made possible by the generous contributions of educational supporters and music patrons. Please consider donating money or gently used instruments to No Child Clef Behind.
