OKM Hosts Wine-and-Cheese-Pairing Event
BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (Jan. 3, 2018) — Join OKM Music for Cheers to Wine and Chocolate, an evening of wine pairing with a variety of cheeses and chocolates, from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 19 in Ambler Hall, 415 S. Dewey in Bartlesville.
According to organizer Ashley La Rue, director of development and planning with OKM, the event features light hors d’oeuvres and some trivia questions sprinkled throughout.
Tickets are $30 each and are available through the office at 415 S. Dewey Avenue in Bartlesville, or online at OKMmusic.org under events.
Jim Hess, who owns 5th & Shawnee Discount Liquor, and Nathan Bates, owner of Omega Chocolate, will lead the wine-pairing event.
“Both Nate and Jim are very knowledgeable in their industry,” said La Rue. “Attending a similar event in the fall, it was fascinating how the wines Jim presented not only enhanced the flavor of the particular Omega chocolate it was paired with, but also changed the characteristics of the wine.”
Hess, whose background in wine-and-food pairing spans 40 years, discusses interesting history behind the wines. He said to expect several tasting samples, plus a surprise.
“With my experience sampling wines I’ve developed a sense of what is compatible,” said Hess. “It is a lot of fun; I enjoy it. And the audience seems to enjoy it, too.”
Bates said he would cover some basics regarding the chocolate. He said that during the wine tasting and chocolate sampling, the combination “leads to a different taste sensation as the wine affects the sugars and brings forth flavors not previously enjoyed.”
Proceeds from Cheers to Wine & Chocolate benefit the OKM children’s programs as well as the June music festival.
The next event is the USO-themed fundraiser on March 3, followed by the June 8-15 music festival in Bartlesville.
